Kei Mouth is one of the best kept holiday secrets in South Africa. This charming village on the southern bank of the Kei River is a delightful holiday destination. Wide clean beaches, fringed with wooded dunes lead inland to fynbos and subtropical bushveld.

Now visitors to this delightful hamlet can combine a wild coast seaside holiday with the tranquility of the bushveld at Benmore Lodge.

Benmore Lodge is situated above Kei Mouth, in rugged, steep, bushveld countryside. It nestles in typical transkei rural scenery with scattered dwellings in the distant rolling Transkei hills.There is an amazing variety of bird life. Game viewing features eland, impala, bontebok, kudu, bushbuck, wildebeest zebra and many others.

Benmore Farm, on which Benmore Lodge is situated, is a delight to explore on foot; from a short stroll to the Strilitzia fields to an adventurous circle route on foot and boat via the Kei River to the village of Kei Mouth.

Tranquility and privacy are keynotes of your stay at Kei Mouth when you visit at Benmore Lodge.

Once a cow shed on historic Benmore Farm, The Shed is a real haven of tranquillity. It is a short walk from the chalets of Benmore Lodge. In season it is open daily for drinks and pub meals.

There is a fully stocked bar with a varied cocktail and shooter menu.
Pub meals include mouth-watering calamari and chips, traditional russian and chips, fresh salads and many more dishes.
There are spacious, comfortable braai facilities which are at the disposal of guests and braai packs can be bought from the pub.

Life doesn't get much better than sitting on the deck outside The Shed, enjoying a sundowner and watching the birds and buck. It is an ideal venue for families. Children can roam around and experience farm life, see the wild ducks on the dam and the tortoises, chickens and cows. In the morning, our resident Blue Crane graces the farm with his regal presence.

Peace and quite, friendship and good times are all part of life at The Shed.

Accommodation

Each chalet has 2 rooms. The main bedroom has a king size or 2 single beds, the second bedroom has two double bunks, so each chalet sleeps up to six people. All duvets and linen are supplied. The bedrooms are large and airy with ceiling fans. The dressing table has plug points for hair dryers and cell phone chargers. The bed rooms have built in cupboards with hangers supplied. Feather pillows are available on request. The bathroom has both shower and bath. All bath and hand towels are supplied. Beach towels are not provided, and these should be bought with.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including toaster, kettle, microwave and fridge/freezer. All that you need to bring is your food and drinks.

The lounge area is large and airy, with sliding doors opening onto a deck with wonderful views of game reserve and Transkei across the river. The dining area also overlooks the game reserve.

Chalets are serviced daily

There is a trading store on the adjoining Benmore Farm which can provide all basic foods, toiletries etc. The trading store also has a huge freezer if you need to store meat, bait etc.
