Description

The Cottages are fully air-conditioned, Italian tiled throughout with shower and separate toilet. The kitchens are fully equipped with glass topped stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and full set of quality pots, pans and cooking utensils. Cutlery, crockery and glassware is provided for 4 guests. The bedrooms come fully equipped with sheets, blankets, duvets, pillows and towels for use in the cottage are provided. Please bring your own swimming towels. There is a TV with DStv decoder in each cottage and a full CD enabled Hi-Fi. A Jetmaster braai facility is in the cottage and a kettle braai is provided for outside use. The single bedroom contains a queen-size double bed (Sardine Run) and two ¾ beds in Shad Rock. There is a sleeper couch in the living room and one in the enclosed verandah.

The Lighthouse complex is fully walled with electric gates and the units are individually fitted with armed response and burglar bars. There is on-site parking under shade cloth. The swimming pool is for use by residents only and not by day visitors. The units are serviced daily during the week and there is a laundry on-site and private arrangements can be made with the on-site staff for laundry to be done. Sheets and towels are changed twice a week for longer staying guests.

Port Edward has all the necessary daily shopping requirements with two large supermarkets, bottle stores, garages, post office and a variety of other shops and restaurants. The swimming beach is protected and one of the best on the KwaZulu-Natal coast and there are excellent fishing spots. If you e-mail us your grocery and alcohol requirements beforehand then we will arrange for the goods to be in your unit when you arrive from the local OK Bazaars. Full payment is to be made to the OK within 24 hours of arrival. The Lighthouse is active and the complex forms part of the South African Adventure Tours Organization (SALATO). The 86 steps up the lighthouse (7 stories) bring you the reward of, without doubt, the best view of the coast on the coast. The whale, dolphin and sardine run views are amongst the best in the country.

There is also a Maritime Museum on the premises which specializes in 16th century wrecks and with particular reference to the S'o Jo'o (1552) and S'o Bento (1554). The S'o Jo'o is of immense significance to South African and Portuguese history. Lectures to individuals and groups can be arranged on request.

Port Edward and the surrounding district has a large variety of activities that cater to all tastes and requirements. Close proximity to the Wild Coast Sun Country Club (10 minutes) and San Lameer Country Club (15 minutes) keep the pros and amateurs out of mischief. Port Edward also has a nine hole course that is a great way to relax. There is a game reserve (Lake Eland) 35 minutes away and the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve offers a variety of trails for the enthusiasts and the fitness challenged. The flora and fauna seen in this reserve is outstanding and the scenery is spectacular. There is horse riding in the area and a huge variety of adventure activities ranging from 4x4 trails to the tallest abseil in the country.

Culinary afficondos and nightclub jollers are also catered for by a large variety of restaurants and eateries. The Backline Nightclub is an institution unto itself and is only 20 minutes away. The Wild Coast Casino (5 minutes away) also offers something for the young and old, big and bold!
