To initiate community based eco-tourism projects. To enhance the development of tourism related skills within the Khoisan communities. Enhancing the natural beauty of the landscape and contribute positively towards the bio-diversity of the area. The Tsitsikamma Forest Village Trust was established and registered as legal body in 1995. The trust is made up of local community members, with an objective of establishing community tourism projects on the banks of the Bloukrans River and Bridge which forms the boundary between the Eastern and Western Cape Provinces. The 29ha of land presently owned by the communities used to be the custodian of the former Roads Department, and later transferred to the Public Works Department and finally to the Trust in 1995. The community based tourism project is currently in its third phase of development, which is predominantly infrastructure and skills development.

Tsitsikamma originates from the Khoi-Khoi language used by the local Inqwa Tribe that lived in the area some 1700 years ago meaning "a place of many/sparkling/abundant water".
